Another WOL "Gem"
by thinker infirst a quoted post from w.o.l.
why we sometimes adjust our beliefs .
when a watchman is posted on the watchtower, he must report all perceived approaching threats.

Simon,
I like your two pence, it made a lot of sense. Oooops, am I a poet and don't know it.
Anyway seriously, I agree, there is a big difference between the two. And I totally agree that,The ones that join often do so because of some personal trauma that the JWs pick up on an 'exploit'
Being one who studied with people, this is very true. Although in my defense, I thought I was saving them. But their mindset on questioning is in a totally different level than mine, one who was raised a JW.

The Raging Sea
by Frenchy inas i think back on my life now i have come to personally experience a verse from a song: "i'd rather be sorry for something i've done that for something that i didn't do.
" i guess that's just a variation of the old addage: 'its better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all'.
fear is a natural (and good) thing but i wonder how much unwarranted fear has robbed us of things that we would have truly enjoyed.

Frenchy,
How beautiful. It is so nice to be good with words. And I am so glad others are, it gives joy to me and others.
And such an apt expression for those of us who have thrown off fetters to be free and truly enjoy the simple things of life.
Thank you for sharing, it was truly beautiful!!

Any suggestions?
by happytobefree inafter reading the posts in parenting re: spanking and the wol thread, it made me ask: is there anything we can do as an individual or group to stop the abuses of the wtbs?.
i know i personally take any watchtower or awake articles i see placed in places (laudromats, hospitals, etc.
) and discard them.

I don't think it is our responsiblity unless called upon in some way. I would compare actively trying to change JW's to their proselitizing (sp.?)
But if we can help in any way, i.e. like you helping displaced ones. Or if they specifically ask questions, I say go for it. And I see nothing wrong with telling non JW's of our experience. So that they don't fall into the same trap.

The Wooden Bowl
by Frenchy inwooden bowl.
a frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year grandson.
the old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered.

Frenchy,
Thanks for sharing. It brought tears to my eyes too.
It also makes me wonder where I stand with my parents. I haven't talked to them for a month. And of course, they haven't called me. Some years ago, they made me executor to their will and their living will. Unusual, being that I am the only daughter of four children. They said they knew I would be the one to honor their wishes and not fight about money etc.
I wonder where I stand with that now that I da'ed myself. Sadly, I would still be the one that would honor their wishes and not fight. But I am sure they probably feel differently now.

NEW RELIGION! NEED INPUT!
by TR inthis is sort of a take-off of the "what should the wt do" thread.. i need to get together a board of directors and elect a president and officers.
we need to figure out a doctrine, a manifesto, and a set of disciplinary rules.
we need to figure out a way to fund our new movement.

I think we should be called "The Lost Who Have Been Found". I am excellent at social function. Great organizer. What would that be called?

Maybe it is the Trinity, or a Duality? Interesting the things you miss when you can't make your chat work!

MDS I wanna talk
by mommy insir i do not know you or claim too.
this world is a funny place, and the people in it are even stranger.
some people get validation from their families and others get it from outside of their families.

Speaking of being worried. I am very worried about Logical. From what I can see he hasn't posted anything since his blue posts. This is definitely not the time for him, IMHO, to get involved with the likes of MDS.
Wendy, hats off to you for catching him out. I, like RHW; didn't have the patience to muddle through his long boring meandering posts. And the few I did scan were a lot of horsepucky.
I repeat, and others have intimated, this is not the place to find converts. Get your own site MDS.

How do you feel about smacking at K Hall?
by Latte inpersonally, it upsets me very much.
or are there any other parents that found better, alternative ways of getting young children 'trained'?.
i am not anti -smacking by the way,(except at the kh) but it is always the very last resort.. latte

Latte and everyone,
I have no children of my own. But I was a child raised as a JW.
I also knew of a women who definitely went beyond smacking and was an abuser. I regret that I never reported the abuse to the authorities. Her oldest child displayed very unusual behavior (later on within a few years i.e. drawing lurid pictures of sexual positions) and she was called on it by the school authorities.
But personally, I think that since small children, and hell even adults have short attention spans that it is very cruel to expect them to sit still for two hours. Whenever I helped other people at the hall with their children, I took them in the bathroom and let them play on the floor. (actually I got down on the floor and played with them)
I think smacking your kids all the time for something they can't control i.e. at the KH, is a good way to make them hate the meetings.
I guess we were pretty good at the hall because I don't remember being taken out too much.

Well said Wendy! I agree with you totally. And just a side point. IMHO, this is not a place to try to get converts. This is a place to share ideas and heal. Maybe I am wrong.
But after being a JW and thinking that converting people was a way to save the world, I have a real problem with preaching with the object of changing people. I don't think this is any one persons responsibility. The responsibility for our belief system is our own.
